“let us take you on a journey through the clear waves, dive in and swim with the tropical fish, visit a wonderous waterfall, a boat full of monkeys and an island of dreams”
As we arrived on the pier with our buggy and beach bags, two children in tow, we began to wonder whether we had made a terrible mistake. Would we cope and relax for a 6 hour round trip with the small people?
Never ones to turn down a challenge, we hopped on board – and thank goodness we did…
As the boat took off I was a little concerned by the open plan, worrying about the possibility of the buggy rolling off the edge or Harry deciding to jump in – however, once the neurotic mum fears died down and we got talking to the fantastic crew, my fears quickly evaporated.
An hour in to journey we stopped to take in the beautiful views of the mountains, Thomas took the opportunity to Scuba dive in the clear oceans and the kids adored watching him.
Next stop we hopped on to a rowing boat whilst the crew got cracking with the BBQ. We were taken down to a stunning waterfall surrounded by boats full of monkeys – it was the most perculiar yet wonderful experience.
Back on the boat for a gorgeous BBQ of grilled chicken, shrimp & vegetables as we arrived at our destination: Ille aux Cerfs, a privately owned Island on the East coast of Mauritius.
As we stepped off the boat – WOW, just wow.
The emerald waters, white beaches, the clear air – it felt magical. The children explored the warm, shallow waters, splashing and laughing – it was one of the happiest moments of our lives.
On the island you could find several different water sporting activities and a quaint little bar with a thatched roof. We enjoyed an elderflower gin and some watermelon ice lollies before we set off back.
Initially I was dreading the 3 hour journey home, but as soon as we boarded the boat the crew got the drinks flowing and as we all settled down they started playing their acoustic guitars and singing – it was such a brilliant atmosphere – taking in the scenery with the live music playing.
The whole day ran so smoothly, it was an experience none of us will ever forget and we will treasure in our little travelling hearts forever.
