A Glamping Getaway in Somerset

A glamping dream; this beautiful, handcrafted roundhouse is set in the grounds of a quaint, organic farm in the heart of Somerset. This unique, stunningly built holiday cottage is situated in the perfect location, just 2 miles from Midsomer Norton and 12 miles from the spectacular city of Bath.

We believe that it’s those extra ‘little touches’ that really make a holiday special, and to arrive to a birthday banner, greetings card and chilled bottle of prosecco was absolutely lovely (spending Olivia’s 27th birthday at The Roundhouse – it didn’t go unnoticed by the owners.) The cottage is incredible, with the romantic four poster bed and an impressive wood burning stove; the perfect getaway for couples or a small family wishing to have a unique experience.

Samson the Horse
Greenhouse on the grounds

On our first night we had a tour of the grounds with the lovely owners; Helen & Brock. They showed us round their beautiful, eco-friendly farm, which is host to some super friendly farm animals; including Samson the pony, who Harry became very fond of.

The next day we set off to ‘The Holy Cow’ for a hearty breakfast, just a short drive away in Chilcompton, serving the most delicious homemade food and excellent coffee. Harry and Mila enjoyed some very impressive breakfasts; Nutella stuffed French Toast and Caramel & Banana pancakes, yummy!!

Lavender Fields
Kitchen at The Roundhouse

We drove over to the Somerset Lavender farm in Faulkland, absolutely worth the visit! Strolling through the enchanting Lavender fields, taking in the spectacular scents of over 20 varieties of Lavender, a really special experience, plus a real photo op! They have a fabulous little shop where you can buy all sorts of lovely gifts; dried bunches of Lavender, soaps, candles and even Lavender shortbread!

We decided to have lunch at The Walled Garden in Mells, again, just a short drive from The Roundhouse. This place is a must for a wonderful midday pot of tea, taking in the gorgeous gardens in the sweet little café. We ordered one of their wood fired pizzas and it was absolutely delicious – an absolute must visit!

Our evening was spent exploring the magnificent City of Bath; such stunning buildings and a vibrant atmosphere, we really fell in love with Bath. Shopping, cocktails, sight-seeing; Bath seems to have it all! There is so much to see in Bath that we wished we had more time to explore. Thomas told Harry that Bath got its name because the Romans loved to bathe in public baths; he really wanted to see what the baths looked like! The day escaped us and before we knew it, it was time to sit down for dinner. We booked in for a meal at The Mint Room in Bath, serving fine Indian cuisine and voted in the top 30 restaurants for a good curry by The Times! Our meal was nothing but sensational, starting with marinated tandoori salmon and Somerset spider steak in bung yoghurt. Our mains were so unique and spectacular; slow roasted lamb shank in an Awadhi-style sauce and the most succulent Chicken in The Mint Room’s house Lababdar sauce – a very unique and special dining experience from start to finish – highly recommended!

Our Sunday began with a birthday breakfast, using the local, delicious bacon provided by the owners at The Roundhouse, in fact, that’s not all they can provide. If you would like to experience some special, local, biodynamic luxuries, just ask Helen and Brock to request The Elderflower Champagne, or the impressive Vegetable boxes from the local farms.

We visited the local railway station in Midsomer Norton; Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust. The Company operates trains on behalf of the Trust on the one mile of railway, providing wonderful experiences on their diesel locomotives. You can book your tickets online for a fabulous activity for the children, the experience includes two round trips of the one mile railway – a great little experience for the children!

Avon Valley

Our weekend was finished off with a trip to Avon Valley; an adventure and wildlife park in Keynsham, approximately 30 minutes from The Roundhouse. The park was absolutely incredible! There was an abundance of activities for the children; a huge play park, meet and greet with the dinosaurs, jeep safari track, trains, rides, farm animals and more! The children had an absolutely brilliant time here! The best part, they slept the whole drive home!

Out trip to The Roundhouse was enchanting, homely, and jam packed with fun and adventure. If you are looking for a wonderfully unique glamping adventure we couldn’t recommend highly enough! Helen and Brock made us feel so welcomed and we had the most fabulous family adventure! You can book directly with code BIGDREAMS20 for 20% discount on your stay! You can thank us later!

Lots of love,
